To the eternal question of “why?” there need be only one answer: because he is Shatner. As mortals there are three fundamental laws which we must all abide by, altogether immutable and unchanging:
1. We will all die.
2. We cannot alter the past.
3. William Shatner can do whatever he damn well pleases.
And so, with respect to these laws, I must announce the production of a new William Shatner album. And that’s not the half of it either; Shatner will be assisted by such luminaries as Henry Rollins, Aimee Mann, Joe Jackson, Nick Hornby and Ben Folds. Among the songs he will remake is Pulp’s classic “Common People”.
He is Shatner; we only live in his world. You will do well to remember that.
